Some Tips When Buying Action Figures

Remember when you were a kid and your mom, dad, uncle, aunt or grandparent would take you to the toy store or some other major big-box department store. As you race towards the action figure aisle, your heart racing in excitement as you make your way to this magical toy of imagination.

Today a lot of men still might buy an action figure or two periodically. Action figures today have become so detailed, so artistic and so sought after. These so-called toys remind us of our carefree youth. I personally have purchased about 10 action figures in the past year.

Athletes As Action Figures

What I’m really into, just like so many other grown men, are action figures related to professional athletes. The detail in some of these pieces of new art are astounding. They have a team jersey right down to every shade of color. Currently producers of action figures actually make licensing agreements with companies who sponsor particular athletes and professional sports teams. These are reflected in some action figures as well.

I am a huge professional hockey fan, and really am a great fan of Sidney Crosby. Crosby has an endorsement deal with Reebok, wearing a Reebok helmet, gloves, hockey pants and skates. The Crosby doll that I own, has and all the logos in place just like the real Sydney Crosby when he takes the ice in the Mellon Arena.

Sci-Fi Action Figures

With the resurgence of sci-fi movies and television, sci-fi action figures have also been popular. This trend started out with the successful Star Wars franchise movies. This love affair with the figures were rekindled when the original trilogy and the new prequel trilogy were released a decade ago. New action figures were created in celebration of these films. However this time the dolls were made with such detail and precision, it made collecting these figures by adults much more acceptable than in the past. The original market for these toys were children, however this high level of detail can only be appreciated by the eye of an adult. This trend continues today with other sci-fi characters of today’s pop culture.

Collecting Action Figures

When collecting action figures, you should collect them as if they are fine pieces of art. You must not collect for investment purposes rather for the appreciation of these works of art. If you like what you see then buy it. Even if it does not go up in value you still enjoy the aesthetics of your action figure. If you are ever wanted to collect as an investment opportunity then there are a few things you should know.

When a new movie or television series is launched, especially if it is a sci-fi base project, then chances are action figures will be created in conjunction with the premiere of these movies or television series. If this is the case, eBay has thousands of sellers who sell these investment pieces before the film or series premieres. Usually the price for these items will be reasonable and are right for purchase. After the sci-fi project is released, usually the price on these action figures will skyrocket. Especially if the film becomes an unexpected commercial success. This is great because once the film is popular there will be more demand for their associated action figures however supply were already have been dried up. This is where, you as a collector or investor can profit big time. Simply sell your action figure back on eBay. It’s that simple. I’ve been doing it for years, with what I consider pieces of art that I no longer love or cherish anymore.

Wishing you the very best in your action figure investment opportunities and this unique form of art collecting.
